Villa Corniole represents excellence in heroic viticulture in Trentino-Alto Adige. Our passion for the vine and the mountains comes together in the production of exceptionally elegant and authentically identity-driven wines. Our family project is deeply rooted in the land, from vine cultivation to the care of mountain vineyards. Every step, from harvest to vinification, is imbued with our dedication to quality.

Trentino-Alto Adige is a mountain viticulture area that, thanks to its geographically diverse and environmentally challenging location, offers identity-driven wines of absolute sensory rigor. The unique alpine morphology of the region features vineyards that stretch from the milder shores of Lake Garda, through the valley floor, and then ascend to the steep slopes of the Dolomites. Mountain viticulture encompasses a wide range of climatic zones and diverse soils.

Historically, our company has cultivated grapes in two of the most renowned and distinctive areas of the region: Valle di Cembra and Piana Rotaliana.

LOCATION

The Val di Cembra is the continuation of the well-known Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa. It is on the border between with Alto Adige-Südtirol. More than 700 km of dry stone walls in support of viticulture and slopes at the limit of the possible: authentic, admirable work of agricultural engineering that does not have many comparisons in our Peninsula and beyond.

CLIMATE

The Cembra Valley has a climate with alpine, mountain characteristics. Summers on average hot, not excessively humid and cold and even harsh winters at high altitude. The warm winds rise up the valley in the morning and during the afternoon and in the evening, the cold currents coming from the Dolomites play a fundamental role in generating the temperature difference between day and night.

SOIL

What makes this terroir unique are also the altitudes where it is possible to grow vines, which even exceed 800 meters above sea level. And of course the soil is also the protagonist, with a geological matrix consisting mainly of effusive volcanic rock which in hundreds of thousands of years has gone to make up a very particular terrain, consisting mainly of porphyry boulders and pebbles, with a good presence of limestone and sand, accomplices of the mineral elegance and the subtle, sharp harmony of the nectars of this area. But that's not all: a strong limestone component distinguishes Giovo (where our vineyards are located) from the rest of the Cembra Valley. Luck for us is to be able to manage and select the components of the soil, based on the types produced.

Ice, water and fire, the elements of the genius loci in the Cembra Valley in Trentino that make the Terroir unique.
From the coral reefs that emerged in the Dolomites , to the volcanoes of the porphyritic platform, to the ice that shaped the hills overlooking the furrow carved by the Avisio stream, here is the ancestral energy that characterizes the Cembra Valley.

The breadth of geological connotations, and the favorable microclimate of the Cembra Valley constitute the ideal environment for the cultivation of white grapes, in particular Müller-Thurgau , Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer and, as a red grape variety, also the Pinot Noir .

Even today the Avisio stream is born from the edges of the perennial Marmolada glacier, the queen peak of the Dolomites, which insinuates itself into the wild canyons and with unchanged energy proceeds with the slow work of modeling. The warm wind of the Ora del Garda in the afternoon and the cool evening breeze from the east caress the vineyards constantly making the environment ideal for growing vines.
From the slopes of the limestone deposits of Monte Corona in Giovo , at altitudes exceeding 800 meters above sea level , to the overhangs overlooking the restless Avisio stream, the 700 km of dry stone walls that mark the terraced vineyards are the tangible emblem of viticulture heroic mountain in Trentino and beyond.

heroic viticulture

The Cembra Valley is a set of woods, villages and vineyards hanging on the rocky walls carved out by the Avisio stream, which arrives here after having crossed the Fassa Valleys first and then Fiemme. Here agriculture, almost entirely manual , becomes heroic and the complex system of dry stone terraces - over 700 km - profoundly marks the landscape to testify to the fatigue of the winemakers . The particular exposure, the altitude - it reaches over 800 m - the morphological characteristics and the pedoclimatic conditions favor a viticulture of great quality , which is expressed both in white wines - starting with Müller Thurgau, as well as in reds and sparkling wine method classic, Trentodoc.

The Valle di Cembra is therefore characterized by a viticulture defined as heroic , on slopes that often exceed 40% slope and which require daily human intervention to prevent the land from transforming into unstable areas and at risk of hydrogeological instability: a manual work  in the vineyard that can exceed a thousand / hour hectare.

LOCATION

The Piana Rotaliana is an alluvial plain between the Adige river and the Noce stream, located in the northern area of Trentino on the border with Alto Adige. It has the shape of a vast triangle enclosed between the banks of the two rivers and with the "Rocchetta gorge" at the top which begins the Val di Non, and is surrounded on three sides by a high bulwark of rocky walls that protect it from the winds. cold and north / east from the Chiusa di Salorno, province of Bolzano.

CLIMATE

A mild continental alpine climate with the Dolomites shielding the area from the cold northern winds and Lake Garda with its mitigating influence.

SOIL

A plain surrounded by high rocky walls and gentle slopes: this luxuriant land, renowned for the cultivation of vines, owes its fortunes to the unique characteristics of the fertile alluvial soil of pebbles, gravel and silt generated by its rivers: the Adige, the Noce and Avisio.

The Piana Rotaliana extends north of Trento between the Adige and Noce rivers: it is a triangle of alluvial origin , surrounded by mountains that protect it from cold winds, creating a particularly favorable microclimate for the vine.
In this favorite land, a place that Cesare Battisti called "The most beautiful vine garden in Europe" , we grow Teroldego , Lagrein and Pinot Grigio , vinified in our mountain cellar. The Piana Rotaliana is primarily the reign of Teroldego Rotaliano, the main wine of Trentino and the most historic doc reeds of our province. A Terroir with unique and unrepeatable pedological characteristics, due to a loamy-sandy soil of good fertility, with a presence of dolomitic, granite, calcareous and porphyritic debris brought downstream by the Noce stream, and to the presence of majestic mountains which, protecting it from the cold winds coming from the North and keeping the summer heat, they create the ideal conditions for the ripening of the grapes.
