Müller Thurgau: a vine to discover

The vine, the territory, combinations and curiosities

On the occasion of the now historic Müller Thurgau Exhibition in the Cembra Valley, from 30 June 2022 to 3 July 2022 (program here), it is good to learn more about the grape variety and its importance for our territory. Let's find out together!

We know that it is a cross between white grape varieties, one of which is the noble Riesling Renano. We also know that he was born in Germany in 1882 thanks to his "father" Hermann Müller, a native of the Swiss town of Thurgau. And here is the name with which he was baptized.

But as regards the other original grape variety, crossed with Riesling, the certainties end and the hypotheses find space, recently conducted also by analyzing the DNA of our Müller Thurgau. Some say it was Sylvaner, some Chasselas, some Gutedel or Madaleine Royal (the last the most probable).

One thing is certain: once in Trentino, in particular in the Cembra Valley, Müller has found its adopted land. Cool climate, ideal altitude and exposure, soil rich in minerals ... but above all, it has found winegrowers who have perfectly understood its character and, by lowering the yields in the quantity of individual plants, have been able to concentrate aromas and flavors in a few, excellent clusters. Bunches that, worked with the wisdom and passion of those who have been producing wine for generations, give life to a fragrant and aromatic, round and intense nectar.

With its structure and aroma it goes well with important first courses, based on mushrooms such as chanterelles and porcini, or enriched with mountain cheeses from the Trentino area: an ode to the territory and its excellence.

Let's now discover our historical interpretation.
