THE WINERY

All grapes both in the Cembra valley and the Rotaliana plain are handpicked and selected. The wines from Villa Corniole winery evolve and transform following the slow pace that nature in the Cembra valley imposes: mountain wines that assimilate a unique soil given by the climate (extreme wines-slow wines) that need to evolve slowly to express and maintain their potential and organoleptic characteristics. From the vineyard to the cellar we indulge the rhythms of nature enabling each type of wine to best express, preserving the original characteristics of the grape.

CELLAR

Villa Corniole winery has been designed to obtain the ideal temperature to keep the wine and blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Most of the cellars are in fact underground. There are adequate spaces and equipment (cold store rooms, temperature control system) designed to maintain the quality of the grapes during winemaking: the force of gravity also allows getting the must directly into the tanks without the aid of pumps. There are also several vats to store the wines in order to bottle at the right time. The view from the winery is stunning: in one side we can see the summit of Monte Bondone, opposite the Paganella and a bit further to the right the Brenta Dolomites: further down at the foot of Mount Corona the famous terraces supported by dry-stone walls, to avoid erosion, are planted with vines.

The German Renaissance painter Aldrecht Dürer, during his first trip to Venice in 1494 was so fascinated by this valley that he immortalised the landscape in some famous watercolours (Ashmolean Museum Oxford).

THE BARREL ROOM

The barrique cellar is a unique and magic place chiselled out from the porphyritic rock of the Cembra valley. Here the wines rest without hurry, at a controlled and constant temperature, so allowing the right evolution. The rocks seem to want to enter by force and the constant temperature and the subdued lights mark the slow passage of time that accompanies the aging of the wines.

BARREL ROOM

Sustainability for Villa Corniole is interpreted as the best way to transfer to future generations a company and a territory not impoverished and exploited, but still full of natural and human resources. All grapes are handpicked in accordance to tradition and environment. A healthy and respectful approach to the environment in the best agricultural tradition, combined with research and technology, are the fundamental supports for a balanced management of the winery Villa Corniole. The vine cultivation is carried out with low environmental impact methods have been introduced over the years, alternative techniques to the use of chemicals (sexual confusion, no herbicides etc). Villa Corniole operates respecting of the environment, using sustainable production techniques, cultivating the vineyards with integrated production systems and ensuring a more natural and sustainable product. The “drip” irrigation systems maximize efficiency in the use of water sources, protecting the environment and respecting the natural resources. The Villa Corniole cellar, largely underground, allows significant energy savings thanks to the natural temperature and humidification of the barrels which occurs through the perspiration of the porphyry, typical stone of the Cembra valley.
The recent installation of photovoltaic panels allow the winery to be energy self sufficient during almost the entire year.
